In the world of sport, there are a few disciplines where a visually impaired person can compete on equal terms with a sighted opponent – chess and checkers are among them.
These are the words of Stasė Ingaunytė, a visually impaired checkers player.
To mark the 60th anniversary of the Lithuanian Audiosensory Library, we have revived the library’s long-standing chess tradition and invited 15 players to take part in a simultaneous chess exhibition with Grandmaster Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen.
The simultaneous exhibition will take place at the library in Vilnius, with a live broadcast available on the library’s YouTube channel.
The live broadcast will feature commentary by sports commentator Romanas Buršteinas and chess enthusiast and actor Marius Repšys.
The event series celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Lithuanian Audiosensory Library is funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture.
