“In the world of sports, there are a few disciplines where a visually impaired person can compete on equal terms with a sighted opponent—namely, chess and checkers,” visually impaired checkers player Stasė Ingaunytė once said.
Therefore, we invite everyone—both experienced players and beginners—to meet on Thursdays in August at the Lithuanian Audiosensory Library in Vilnius.
Come play, get to know one another, learn from each other, and see for yourself that everyone has equal opportunities at the chessboard.
If you have one, please bring your own chessboard. We will also make sure you can try a board that will be a new experience for most sighted players.
Why are we playing in August? Because on September 3rd, we will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Lithuanian Audiosensory Library. One of the highlights of the celebration will be a chess simultaneous exhibition with Grandmaster Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen. Thus, the August meetups are a great opportunity to warm up before this special event.
